Meeting the network: AVR Lab

On June 24th starts the 6th International Conference on Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Computer Graphics (Salento AVR 2019) in Santa Maria al Bagno (Lecce, Italy) organized by the Augmented and Virtual Reality Laboratory (AVR Lab) of the Department of Engineering for Innovation of the University of Salento as well as a member of EuroVR.

The AVR Lab team

AVR Lab is a research laboratory focused on Virtual and Augmented Reality technologies in medicine and surgery, cultural heritage and education. AVR Lab is also engaged in the design and development of advanced human-machine interfaces. Furthermore, it is involved in the research activities of DREAM, a multidisciplinary research laboratory located in the Hospital of Lecce.

In 2010 AVR Lab joined EuroVR , a network of research groups and companies interested in promoting Virtual and Augmented Reality technologies.

This year the annual International Conference on Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and Computer Graphics (Salento AVR 2019) takes place in Santa Maria al Bagno (Lecce, Italy), 24-27 June 2019. The conference intends to bring together the community of researchers and scientists in order to discuss key issues, approaches, ideas, open problems, innovative applications and trends on virtual and augmented reality, 3D visualization and computer graphics in the areas of medicine, cultural heritage, arts, education, entertainment, military and industrial applications http://www.salentoavr.it

EuroVR President: Keynote speaker at Salento AVR

EuroVR President Marco Sacco will contribute to the conference SalentoAVR as Keynote Speaker, giving a speech on “Augmented & Virtual Reality Enabler for the Factory 4.0”.

SalentoAVR is an international conference on Augmented and Virtual Reality which is taking place in Otranto from 24th to 27th June. On this occasion, EuroVR president will propose an analysis on the evolution of the manufacturing sector, the so call Factory 4.0, which requires the introduction of advanced tools for both the knowledge representation and simulation.

For over 10 years, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality have generated benefits in several sectors thanks to the potentialities offered by these visualization technologies able to provide an added value to the contents and data enrichment.

Manufacturing companies, thanks to the reduction of cost and a widespread of devices, could now take advantage integrating AR/VR to simulation and emerging AI. The result is a Virtual Factory, a full digital twin of the real plant, that could be used for several purposes, from design to monitoring and logistics, from reconfiguration to training. Some industrial applications will be presented.
